Monday 23rd October

  • Was greeted in my inbox on Monday morning with another flurry of emails from constituents raising their concerns about the terrible war in Gaza.
  • The Renters Reform Bill passed its second Parliamentary reading without requiring a vote, bringing us one step closer to banning ‘no fault evictions’.
  • I have been contacted by a constituent who is sadly terminally ill with cancer yet is having to live in completely substandard accommodation which is completely ridden with black mould. No one should have to live like this, and it shows how urgently we need make drastic changes to how our housing system works

Tuesday 24th October

  • I was delighted to hear that my constituent’s DBS check had finally been carried out, after there were serious delays in the processing, preventing his driver’s licence renewal. This had been causing him serious financial hardship, preventing him carrying out his livelihood as a minicab driver.
  • Glad to hear the news that after negotiations Transport for London has confirmed that Day Travelcards will continue to be accepted on TfL services.

Wednesday 25th October

  • Concerned to learn about one of my constituents who has been placed in a Travelodge because they are homeless, reporting that there are bedbugs in the room. I have raised this with Enfield Council.
  • The realities of the NHS delays were brought home by a constituent who has serious breathing problems but had faced delays in getting an appointment. Sadly, he has now suffered a collapsed lung and I am hoping that he recovers soon. I have been in touch with North Middlesex Hospital to raise the constituent’s complaints.

Thursday 26th October

  • Parliament was prorogued and will not sit until the King’s Speech on November 7th. However, important campaigning and work in the constituency will continue in the meantime.
  • I responded to several policy enquiries from constituents, including emails drawing my attention to an upcoming Parliamentary event held by UNICEF about the global nutrition crisis, and the priorities that government should have to help improve animal welfare.

Friday 27th October

  • I have been contacted by 26 constituents this week requiring assistance with personal issues, including many being evicted from their homes by section 21 ‘no fault eviction’ notices and worried about being made homeless.
  • 236 constituents got in touch this week about policy issues, dominated by concerns around the conflict in Gaza of course, but including other important issues such as hate crimes against LGBTQ+ people and the pension triple lock.
