Monday 13th November

• This week I received almost 2,000 emails from constituents urging me to vote for a ceasefire and calling for the UK to hold Israel to account for the war crimes it is committing in Gaza. Though it may take time, I will respond to everybody who has contacted me. The ongoing slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza is horrific. The violence must end. That starts with a ceasefire.
• On Monday Housing Association L&Q finally confirmed that they would grant my constituent compensation after failing to resolve severe issues of disrepair in their property that have continued for months and months and badly impacted my constituent’s health.

Tuesday 14th November

• On Tuesday I voted for a Labour amendment to the King’s speech that highlighted the failure of the Government to include proposals to prevent a repeat of the economic fallout from Liz Truss mini-budget. The Tories voted against our motion and so it was defeated by 314 votes to 228.
• In my role on the International Development Select Committee, we held an important session to gather evidence about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. I questioned experts from the UN and Medical Aid for Palestine about the shortage of Food, Water and other essentials. They made it clear that the population in Gaza faces starvation unless Israel ends the siege.

Wednesday 15th November

• On Wednesday I voted for an amendment to the King’s Speech calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The amendment urged the Government to take note of the growing calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire from the United Nations and its aid agencies and to join the international community in urgently pressing for an immediate ceasefire.
• I chaired the All-Parliamentary Party Group for Eye-Care and Visual Impairment in a session that introduced the Eye Care Support Pathway – a plan that seeks to address every stage in the eye care journey. Many people who face eye care difficulties find that they are sadly left with little understanding about what options are available to them. The impact on mental health can be significant. It is important that a more unified and joined-up approach across the country to eye care is brought forward with the help of the new Eye Care Support Pathway.

Thursday 16th November

• Following my representations, Enfield Council sourced a two-bedroom property for my constituent which means that my constituent’s child can now continue to attend their special needs school. This is a vitally important outcome given the disruption that could have been caused by the incredibly difficult circumstances that we face amidst a housing crisis.
• Enfield Council confirmed that they will clear the land at the read of 200 Nags Head Road at the earliest opportunity. I will be keeping an eye on this situation and if the Council fails to act as they have promised I will step in to ensure that they do.

Friday 17th November

• This week I received almost 2,000 emails, an increase of more than 600% in the amount of emails I normally receive. This was due to the huge number of emails I received from constituents calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. However, I also continued to receive emails from constituents experiencing issues with housing, anti-social behaviour and more.
• I was pleased to visit the Edmonton Islamic Centre on Friday, meeting with a number of the trustees. I was very concerned to hear about the rise in islamophobia, personally experienced by those in the meeting and listened carefully to their concerns about the unfolding tragedy in Gaza.
