Helping working families in Edmonton

Too many families are faced with difficult choices about how they balance work and family life. Some parents who want to work are being prevented from doing so because the rising cost of childcare makes it unaffordable, while others increasingly struggle to find good before and after school placements.

Under the Tories, the cost of childcare has risen by a shocking 30 per cent. Many parents in Edmonton are now finding childcare costs so much that it doesn't make sense to return to work.

Labour will provide 25 hours of free childcare each week to working parents of three and four year olds. Every primary school in Edmonton will provide childcare from 8am to 6pm each day to help parents balance work and family lives.

Labour will also restore early-years intervention by doubling the amount of Sure Start places to ensure the best start in life for children in Edmonton and the country.
