Kate Osamor MP, Labour’s Shadow International Development Secretary, responding to events in Aleppo, said:
“We are witnessing a catastrophic human disaster unfold in Aleppo, a city the combined size of Birmingham and Glasgow. It is time for the all the warring parties to listen to the United Nations demand for a weekly 48 hour ceasefire so food, water and medical aid for the starving and the sick be delivered.
“Whilst humanitarian corridors will provide some short term relief in Aleppo, the people of Syria need a long term and sustainable cessation solution and that must start with a complete cessation violence. I hope the government are fully engaged in discussions on how to bring this conflict to an end.”
