Press Release: Pharmacy Closures in Edmonton

Commenting on figures obtained from the Department of Health, which estimate that 1 in 4 community pharmacies are at risk of closing in Edmonton, Kate Osamor, Member of Parliament for Edmonton, said: "In the face of unprecedented demands on health and social care services, the importance of local pharmacies is greater than ever.

"The Government has now confirmed that budgets for community pharmacies will reduce by 3.4% in 2016-17 and 4% in 2017-18. In reality, the Government’s decision to press ahead with these damaging cuts actually represents a 12% cut for the rest of the year, on current levels, and a 7% cut in the following year".

"These plans are short-sighted and I believe the reductions in funding will hit the deprived, elderly and long-term sick people of Edmonton hardest".
