Today I asked the Home Secretary to account for Government failings related to the Windrush Scandal.

Members of the Windrush generation should never have been put through turmoil in the first place.  What they certainly do not need now is further incompetence, endless application forms and the fear of being torn from their homes.   The Government callously plan to push ahead with restarting deportations, instead of prioritising care for their citizens.

Considering the injustice, uncertainty and abject hardship applicants have faced in trying to prove their citizenship, and the subsequent unreasonable delays to the compensation scheme, deportations to the Caribbean should be halted and all members of the Windrush cohort should have immediate and automatic access to the maximum amount available under the hardship fund until the compensation scheme is finalised.
