The brutal murder of Israeli civilians last weekend has shocked the world. Israelis and Jews worldwide are in mourning. Saturday was the deadliest day in Israel’s history, with the largest number of Jews killed in any one day since the Holocaust. This was an appalling crime against humanity, there is never any excuse for the indiscriminate massacre of civilians. In the days since, the killing of civilians in Gaza has been horrific. Depriving a civilian population of food, water and electricity is a war crime and must be clearly condemned. International law must be upheld. At this moment more than any other, we must be unequivocal in our condemnation of war crimes, whoever commits them. It’s clear that the status quo has failed Israelis and Palestinians. For too long the international community has abandoned attempts at brokering peace. Instead of committing to long term solutions the situation in Palestine and Israel has been ignored. That must now end. We must now prioritise the protection of civilian life in both Israel and Palestine. Punishing Palestinians for the crimes of Hamas will do nothing to create peace or security for Israel. The killing of civilians is never justified, whether they are Palestinian or Israeli. The International community must now work to end the occupation and give both Israelis and Palestinians the freedom, equality, and security to which they are entitled. |

Bonus Ban Under the Conservative government’s watch, our rivers, lakes, and seas have been used as dumping grounds for raw sewage, leaving our environment and wildlife to suffer. This is the legacy of thirteen years of Tory rule and more than three decades of failed privatisation. Which is why, if Labour forms the next Government, we will place the water industry under ‘special measures. We will empower Ofwat with the authority to strip water bosses of their bonuses when they significantly pollute our vital waterways. By bolstering Ofwat’s regulatory powers, Labour is delivering a clear message – water company executives who fail to meet high environmental standards will face the consequences. Their days of profiting from environmental degradation must come to an end. It’s time to make those responsible accountable for their actions. Severe and automatic fines for illegal discharges are a tangible step towards dissuading unlawful behaviour. There will also be a requirement for water companies to monitor every single water outlet, to increase transparency and accountability. This measure is vital for early detection, intervention, and the prevention of pollution incidents. While this is a commendable short-term solution, we must also acknowledge the long-term reality. Water privatisation has failed. Ordinary people have been left footing the bill while shareholders have walked away with huge dividends. Underinvestment has left our water system in a perilous state. In the long run, we must accept that water should be returned to public ownership. This privatisation experiment, the only one of its kind in the world, has failed the country. Public utilities belong in public hands and the next Labour government must start the processing of making that vision a reality once again. |

Colosseum Retail Park I’m aware of the concerns that have emerged in Edmonton due to the disruptive car meets taking place at the Colosseum Retail Park. The noise and reckless driving have been causing distress to our residents, and it’s clear that action is needed to address these issues promptly. I’ve been closely following the recent public meetings where local councillors, police officers, Transport for London, and concerned residents came together to discuss the problems associated with these car meets. The impact on our community, from sleepless nights to the risks of accidents, is evident. While immediate measures such as the installation of concrete barriers have been taken to address some of the problems, I acknowledge that a more holistic and long-term strategy is required. The safety and well-being of Edmonton residents are paramount, and it’s crucial we work collectively to find a sustainable solution. |
