Monday 7th August

  • Enfield Council agreed to liaise with the Safer Neighbourhood Police Team to tackle ongoing and persistent anti-social behaviour at Craig Park. Increased patrols and parking enforcement visits have been arranged to deter Anti-Social Behaviour.

  • Many constituents wrote to me this week about the use of electronic shock collars in England. While such devices were banned in Wales in 2010, the Tories have failed to act. I support a ban to end this cruelty.

Tuesday 8th August

  • In July I wrote to the Secretary of State for Education raising my objections to Tory cuts to school funding and teacher pay. I received a response from the Minister for Schools, Nick Gibb, in which he pointed to the funding that has been announced by the government but failed to explain how we will retain teachers and recruit additional teachers when teachers are facing huge real term pay cuts.

  • Following representations, Enfield Council agreed to provide one of my constituents within interim accommodation after she presented as homeless, and the council also agreed to place another constituent in emergency accommodation after they initially refused to assist him after failing to take into account that he was a care leaver.

Wednesday 9th August

  • Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, reiterated his call for Rent Controls, which I know my constituents desperately need. The Housing crisis faced in London is the worst in the country and its vital that the next Labour Government gives Sadiq the powers he needs to tackle the rent crisis. A situation in which those who keep London running can’t afford to live in it is simply unsustainable. Urgent action is needed.

  • I received a response from the Minister for Care following a letter I wrote to her in July raising concerns about how the Major Conditions Strategy would take dementia into account. The Minister stated that the Government has asked those working in health and care services, local government and the voluntary sector to share their views about the new strategy.

Thursday 10th August

  • Latest figures revealed that that over 7.6 million people are waiting for NHS treatment, with 400,000 people waiting more than year for treatment by June. The NHS has been brought to its knees by 13 years of cuts and unaffordable outsourcing. The next Labour government needs to end privatisation in our health service, established a National Care Service and reinvest in the NHS.

  • As part of my role as the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on No Recourse to Public Funds I wrote to the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, Steve Barclay, asking that the Healthy Start voucher scheme be extended to British children whose parents are subject to the NRPF restriction. It is immoral that British children should be prevented from getting this vital help simply because of their parent’s immigration status.

Friday 11th August

  • After writing to Southern Housing, they finally agreed to inspect my constituent’s property and raised a works order to treat damp and mould while beginning the process of transferring my constituent to alternative accommodation while the works are carried out.

  • This week I was contacted by dozens of constituents and received more than 200 emails on issues such as homelessness, Home Office delays as well as campaigns around Animal Welfare and the Climate Crisis.
