My Week Representing Edmonton

Monday 10th July 2023

  • Dozens of constituents contacted me asking me to vote against the Illegal Migration Bill, which I did on Tuesday. I will continue to oppose this cruel and unworkable Bill.
  • Enfield Council agreed to meet with my constituent to discuss long term concerns they have about the estate they live on, including issues involving disrepair and anti-social behaviour.

Tuesday 11th July 2023

  • Many constituents wrote to me concerned about news that National Railway Ticket offices will be closed across the country. I’ve made my opposition to this plan clear and have written to the Transport Secretary about this issue.
  • I voted a total of 18 times on Lords amendments to the Illegal Migration Bill, including to ensure compliance with international law, grant protections to victims of modern slavery, LGBT individuals, and unaccompanied children, as well as protect children and pregnant women from detention.

Wednesday 12th July 2023

  • I spoke in a Westminster Hall speech in recognition of the 30th Anniversary of the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence to express my appreciate and administration for the campaign for Justice which has been so bravely thought by Baroness Lawrence. I always called again for significant reforms to fix the corrupt and racist Met police.
  • After a long running dispute Enfield Council finally agreed to attend my constituent’s property to conduct repairs and fix leak in the kitchen while also inspecting the roof for further leaks.

Thursday 13th July 2023

  • My constituent was granted 3C Leave, allowing her to work and access to the NHS. Meanwhile the Home Office said they would decide their claim by the end of the year.
  • A number of my constituents wrote to me calling for more funding for Canals. Protecting and maintaining our environment is crucial and I agree that Local Authorities like Enfield need to be given the resources they need to do exactly that.

Friday 14th July 2023

  • This week I was contacted by more than 200 constituents who were concerned about a wide varied of issues from housing and homelessness to Poverty and Aged related illness.
  • I visited Enfield Foyer Housing and spoke with the wonderful residents there to hear about their concerns and the way in which the housing crisis is impacting on them.
