Monday 11th September

  • I chaired a parliamentary session of the Inter Parliamentary Union to discuss the ongoing crisis in Tigray as part of a series of discussions leading up to the 75th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Between 600,00 and 800,00 lives have been lost in Tigray alone, making it one of the deadliest conflicts in recent memory.
  • Waltham Forest Council withdrew their summons costs and cleared my constituent’s Council Tax arrears following representations which I made on behalf of my constituent.

Tuesday 12th September

  • On Tuesday I voted to class Nitrous Oxide as a Class C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. In addition to the anti-social behaviour associated with the drug, there are serious health concerns and its important that police have the tools to tackle those concerns head on.
  • The DWP awarded my constituent compensation and apologised after miscalculating her child maintenance payment, which forced her family to use a food bank.

Wednesday 13th September

  • I voted for a Lords amendment that would have strengthened the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Bill to block loopholes that currently allow Putin’s associates to live lavish lives in London.
  • I also voted for a Lord’s amendment to the Procurement Bill that would have made it easier for authorities not to award contracts to organisations with links to organ harvesting.

Thursday 14th September

  • Enfield Council agreed to ensure that remedial work was completed at my constituent’s property after delays in taking any action following a leak.
  • Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Association have committed to working with L&Q and Fusion Gyms more closely moving forward so that they can tackle repeated leaks that have impacted the operation of Edmonton Leisure Centre.

Friday 15th September

  • This week more than 60 constituents contacted me, with the most common issues being housing disrepair, homelessness and Home Office delays.
  • Many constituents wrote to me opposing Government plans that would have made it easier for property developers to pollute our rivers more than they already are. The Tories are creating a false choice between protecting our environment and house building. That’s not a choice we need to make and environmental protection isn’t an excuse for 13 years of Tory failure on housing.
