Monday 15th May

  • Returned from Turkey after observing the elections in Diyarbakir and visiting lots of polling stations in the Kurdish-majority area. It’s so important to have people watching to minimise the chances of malpractice.
  • Delighted to hear that after many months one of my constituents were paid the wages they were entitled to after my representations.

Tuesday 16th May

  • Attended a session of the International Development Committee about the humanitarian crisis caused by the violence in Sudan to hear about what assistance is needed from the UK and international bodies.
  • After my representations one of my constituents has been moved out of terrible conditions in their flat affected by horrendous damp and mould. No one deserves to live in those conditions.

Wednesday 10th May

  • In Parliament I hosted an event of the Nigeria All-Party-Parliamentary-Group with LGBTQIA+ filmmakers Bisi Alimi and Wapah Ezeigwe, to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
  • Attended a drop-in with the Alzheimer’s Society to mark Dementia Action Week where I found that figures for dementia diagnosis are not published our area. I will be pushing for change.
  • Held a conversation with the Restoration and Renewal team in Parliament urging that the works be completed as quickly and cost effectively as possible.
  • In the evening attended a rally for the Windrush generations in Parliament, discussing the failures of the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

Thursday 11th May

  • I replied to policy concerns from constituents on issues such as the global hunger crisis and the Retained EU Law Bill.
  • Received a Ministerial response from Mike Freer. Unfortunately, the Justice Department appears unable to make it easier for law centres to access insurance for housing cases, to cover claimants.

Friday 12th May

  • I was pleased to host a coffee morning in Snell’s Park for residents and hear concerns. Persistent anti-social behaviour remains a problem and we had the local neighbourhood policing team on hand to discuss these issues.
  • Received a number of evasive responses to written questions I submitted to the Home Office, such as about details of the questionnaires they have sent some asylum applicants to complete.
