Monday 26th June

  • I voted in support of Lords Amendment 22 to the National Security Bill. This amendment would have required UK political parties to identify and manage the risks associate with donations from foreign powers. The Tories voted the Amendment down.
  • I voted in favour of Lords Amendment 10 to the Financial Services and Markets Bill which would have included financial inclusion, such as access to cash, in the remit of the Financial Conduct Authority.

Tuesday 27th June

  • I voted for a motion, blocked by the government, that would have seen Parliament put aside time for a serious debate on the Mortgage and Rental crisis created by this Government recklessness.
  • After I made representations to DWP officials on behalf of my constituent the DWP apologised for failing to implement a welfare benefit tribunal’s decision and made a backdated payment of £3,693 in addition to compensation.

Wednesday 28th June

  • I Voted No to an amendment to the Holocaust Memorial Bill that would have blocked the Bill and therefore the building of a new Holocaust Memorial at Victoria Tower Gardens, which has my full support.
  • Enfield Council apologised after a ‘system error’ resulted into the termination of my constituent’s Discretionary Housing Payment award. The award has been reinstated meaning she no longer faces eviction.

Thursday 29th June

  • I joined other panellists at an event held by Solidarity with the People of Turkey (SPOT) to discuss the consequences of recent elections in Turkey and what the future might hold for the millions of Turkish citizens fighting for a democratic future.
  • Following my intervention Enfield Council agreed to provide my constituent, a cancer patient facing imminent eviction, with interim accommodation.

Friday 30th June

  • I paid a visit to Fleecefield Primary School after pupils wrote to me calling on the Government to do more to tackle plastic pollution. It was a pleasure to be given a tour around the school by the members of the school council.
  • More than 250 constituents contacted me this week about issues as wide ranging as Cyprus, NHS Strikes and housing disrepair.
